Hello Everyone…

Well it is our last night in Antigua and we’ve just packed up all our stuff and are enjoying the final hours laying in the hammock watching and listening to the rythmatic waves rolling in.

The weather was fantastic for us. We arrived here at Coconut Beach Resort on December 24. A wonderful room with balcony (and hammock) in the quaint 44 room estate. We were pretty much enthralled by the friendly staff and layout of the resort. The food was a la carte every night with a young chef that clearly commands the kitchen, food preparation, and presentation. For us, it was 5-star.

On Christmas day, as a gift to each other, we did absolutely nothing except relax on our lounge chairs, read our books, and take turns fetching fancy drinks from the bar for each other. I ask, can anyone be so blessed to have such a gift? That gift being time…time to relax and enjoy:)

We rented a jeep to tour the 108 square km island. I drove and Dave navigated as he has a remarkable internal compass and gift at deciphering maps. I also wanted the opportunity to experience the British influence and drive on the left side of the road. It’s remarkable how much you have to think about it in the beginning. Basically you treat a right turn like our left turn. Oh, and there’s that whole inside of the car being backwards to ours thing. We did pretty good though.

Some of the sites we saw we’re just incredible! Devils Bridge…a natural rock formation carved out by the powerful sea. Multiple beaches that have the white sand, azure water and foliage that are as picturesque as a postcard. This morning we snorkled in a stunning bay a short walk from our resort out to an old shipwreck…diving down at the mass to share a piece of the story that unfolded so many years ago.

We capped the day off with doing a nature walk with a local “medicine man” learning about local trees and plants and ending with a climb to a fort built in 1780 that offered four-corner views of the Caribbean, inner bays and captivating views of Antigua itself.

So tomorrow morning we will be up bright an early to take a flight to St. Marten, then off to Fort Lauderdale for an overnighter where we’ll be meeting a friend for dinner and drinks. Saturday a.m we’ll be entering the final leg of this incredible journey to meet up with Dave’s parents in Costa Rica which is where we’ll ring in the New Year.

It has been a privilege to see this part of the world and will some day return to read and create another chapter in this book of life. Our best wishes to all for a wonderful and happy New Years.

Love to all…
